Design is another area where
Gionee excels. The S6s has a unibody design with a glass front and metal back.
At 166 grams, it does feel a tad overweight for a 5.5-inch device but the
fantastic build quality and design are redeeming factors.
On the right-hand side are the volume and power button while the camera module and fingerprint sensor is on the back. Thanks to the slight curve on the back, the phone fits comfortably in the hand. What we did not like was that the capacitive buttons for home, back and recent were not backlit.

Good
video recording:
The primary 13MP camera is no
slouch either. It uses a Sony sensor with f2.0 aperture and 5p lens. It
captures images with high detail and rich colour in daylight and surprised us
with better-than-expected images in low-light. Some low light images did have
visible noise and soft details when viewed on a larger screen. The focus and
shutter speed is zippy and you get multiple modes to play with including a
professional mode with manual controls.
Camera:
We've seen a lot of Gionee
phones with good camera performance. The S6S takes things a step further
because it gives you top-notch selfies with a wide-angle 8MP front camera. The
front camera has an f2.2 aperture with a 5p lens and features a front flash as
well as an option of screen flash.
In our usage, we found that the images taken with front camera were actually higher quality than expected — good details, vivid colour and minimal noise. Even in low light, the camera managed to take selfies with sharp details (without using the flash) — good enough to share on social media.
In very low light, you can always use the front LED flash. The company says that the flash has a high CRI (color rendering index) — essentially, it measures the accuracy of a light source to show the subject in truer colours. The flash helps in low light scenarios like in a pub or club.

Verdict:
The Gionee S6 has all the
elements of an excellent smartphone. It packs a punch mainly because of its
powerful configuration and slim design. The other aspects of the phones meet
the standards of quality smartphones; however for a non-branded phone the price
is on a higher side.
